Catchment Boundaries Updated
October 11, 2024
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Starting in September 2025, Steinbach will have four elementary schools: Parkhill (NEW), Southwood, Woodlawn, and Elmdale. To accommodate the addition of Parkhill, the »ÆÉ«µçÓ° Board of Trustees has approved new catchment areas, which will take effect at the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
The new boundaries are designed to balance enrollment, minimize the need for children to cross major intersections, and prioritize maintaining student friendships as they transition to middle school. These changes are expected to have a positive impact.
Catchment Areas: The new Steinbach Early Years Catchment Maps (2025-26) are now available on the HSD website. Regarding middle school boundaries, Parkhill and Southwood will feed into Stonybrook Middle School, while Elmdale and Woodlawn will feed into Clearspring Middle School. These boundary changes will not affect current middle school students.
Transportation: The walk zones for Elmdale, Southwood, and Woodlawn Schools will remain unchanged. However, the walk zone for the new Parkhill School has yet to be determined. Information about bus routes will be shared closer to the school’s opening date.
Transition Support: We recognize that this transition may be challenging for some students and families. Rest assured, school counselors and staff will be available to offer support as needed. To help students adjust, school visits are being planned for Spring 2025, allowing them to become familiar with their new schools.
Schools of Choice: Applications are subject to class size limits (a maximum of 20 students for grades K-4). Due to projected enrollment, approval of in-division applications is expected to be very limited, and requests will be denied if a grade is full. Please note that HSD does not provide bus transportation for students attending schools outside their designated catchment area. Students currently enrolled in Steinbach elementary schools through Schools of Choice will continue to have their placement honored.
Additional Questions: An FAQ resource has been published on the HSD website. We trust that this information will provide you with answers to many of your questions.
I encourage you to review the new catchment boundaries and FAQ on the HSD website. If you require further clarification, please contact your child’s current school or email steinbachcatchments@hsd.ca. In the coming months, you will receive more information regarding transportation, orientation sessions, and support services.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
