Incident Update

January 14, 2025

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

As you are aware, at approximately 10:50 am, the »ÆÉ«µçÓ° received notification from the Steinbach RCMP of a bomb threat directed towards the Steinbach Regional Secondary School. The threat was called to 911. RCMP responded and attended the SRSS. All students and staff were immediately evacuated.

At approximately 12:15 pm, RCMP assured us of the safety of our students and staff and proceeded to give clearance for a return to the school. Students returned to their period 3 class to retrieve their belongings. Classes then proceeded as scheduled for the remainder of the day. End-of-day buses will leave from the SRSS as regularly scheduled.

We understand that such events can be traumatic for some children. Divisional social workers and school counsellors will continue to be available at the SRSS to provide support as needed.

The safety of our students and staff is of utmost priority. For our school emergency response plans to be effective, we depend on the cooperation and assistance of many people, including parents/caregivers. We appreciate your understanding and are grateful to the RCMP for their immediate response and ongoing assistance.

Respectfully,

Joe Thiessen, Superintendent-CEO
