K-4 Elementary School in West Steinbach

Scheduled for completion in 2025, at an estimated cost of 39.7 million dollars, the new two-storey school covers 62,304 sq. ft. and provides space for 500 Gr. K-4 students (capable of expanding to 600 students).

The building consists of 19 Kindergarten to Grade Four classrooms, a gymnasium, a library, a music room, an art room, a multi-purpose room, a life-skills suite, a hygiene room, and associated support spaces. The facility also provides childcare for 74 children, including before and after care rooms.

The official Ground breaking took place on July 26, 2023.

Directions – From Hwy #12, turn west on McKenzie Ave and continue approx. 1 km to Parkland Drive (opposite of Windsor Gate). Proceed north on Parkland Drive. Site is located on the east side of the road. Please note that there no through road on Parkland.

Designed by , the building is organized as two wings off of a central core: the east wing contains two storeys of classroom space, while the north wing includes classrooms on the second floor with kindergarten and child care spaces on the main level. The central core contains the two-storey entry commons, with direct access to the school’s core functions. The general contractor is .

The new school is targeting LEED Silver certification. The project is designed to support the Manitoba Government’s concept that a school facility should provide the best possible environment for teaching and learning in consideration of the environment and principles of sound financial stewardship.
